Welcome to our series where we dive into the history of people that you need to know. I can’t wait to share with you the history of others as this website is all about history, culture, and food. Let’s get to know the history of Angela.

Where were you born and raised: I’m a rural south Georgia coastal empire girl, raised in a small town right outside of Savannah, Georgia.

Who were you in High School? What type of person were you as far as quiet, popular, etc.? I was voted Homecoming Queen if that is an indicator of my time in high school. I was highly engaged and involved in my school clubs, extracurricular activities, and community service efforts. Being raised in a small town, you have to step up to the plate to get things done, and when I think about my time in high school – and even earlier as an elementary and middle school student – that’s what I did.

Share something from your past that you don’t mind sharing (good or bad) and what did you learn from it. How did it shape who you are today? Give us a history lesson…… When I was in elementary school, I remembered there was a girl that would bring her lunch to school. One day, I noticed her bread was green. I didn’t know it was mold, but thought it looked unusual enough to tell the teacher. That’s when I learned about free or reduced lunch. That’s also when I learned that all children didn’t have access to basic food essentials. I began helping my maternal grandmother during the summers with the “Feed-A-Kid” free summer lunch program. I didn’t know then just how often I would think about this moment. That experience has stayed with me over the years, and unfortunately, the problem of feeding children and families still exists as well. (A glimmer of hope to this story – the girl (now woman) found me a few years ago on Facebook and she seems to be doing well.)

How do you know when you can trust someone? I feel that trust is felt. You can feel when someone has a genuine spirit. A consistent display of authenticity is an invitation to trust, in my opinion.
