Well the storm is coming but I am so glad that God is my rock because no matter what storms comes my way with him by my side I can do all the things. Now although we have faith, let’s not be stupid as we prepare for any storms in our lives. I’m talking about the ones that may bring snow or the ones that may bring heartache. If you stay read you never have to get ready. Anywhoo…welcome to the Gullah Porch where every Friday we meet on the porch to talk about some wisdom, read some thangs about us black folks, and shop a small business.

Wisdom

If your habits don’t change, you won’t have a New Year….you will just have another year.

Read this…

The fact that it’s 2026 and still doing firsts as African Americans….

Small Business

I bought this on a whim. I am going to try it and see how good it sticks.

Ask the Geechee Gal

Q: What’s your best advice to prepare for a winter storm or a hurricane?

Fill your gas tank up so you have that as a backup in case the power goes out.

Buy water all the time not just in a storm. I make a habit of buying two jugs every time I grocery shop and I shop 2 to 3 times a week.

Have another source to cook with. If you have a gas stove in the house you good but if you are all electric get a gas grill of some kind or a charcoal grill

Always keep batteries, candles, and flashlights on hand.

Keep canned goods all the time in your home even if you don’t use them

Have a portable battery-operated heater for the winter. I need to get a generator but for now do the basics and you will be fine.

Sound off in the comments! If you have a business you want to share or join in on the question of the week, please use our comment section to come to the porch. You can also email me info@shegeechee.com to ask a question without using your name.
